Blue Sky, Earthbound: The Indigo Connection
Sunday, July 6, 2025
10am - 5pm
The Loom Creative Studio
Bastrop County, Texas
* PRIVATE EVENT BY INVITATION ONLY
Join us for a hands-on journey that merges the wisdom of the earth with the expansive energy of the sky as we dive into the world of indigo dyeing. In this immersive workshop, we’ll explore both the ancient and modern methods of working with indigo—starting with fresh indigo leaves, and then transitioning to the deep, rich hues of pre-reduced indigo powder.
You’ll learn to create your own indigo dye vats, starting with the time-honored technique of fermenting fresh indigo leaves to create a lush, vibrant dye bath. From there, we’ll work with pre-reduced indigo powder to explore how different techniques—such as dipping, folding, and tying—can create stunning, one-of-a-kind patterns.
Each student is encouraged to bring a few garments from home—whether it’s a favorite shirt, scarf, pair of socks, or even a pillowcase—that will be transformed by the magic of indigo. Through this creative process, you'll not only connect with the ancient art of dyeing, but also deepen your bond with the natural world and the elements that shape it: Earth and Sky.
By the end of the workshop, you’ll have a piece of wearable art imbued with the ancient wisdom of indigo—crafted by your own hands and dyed with intention, creativity, and reverence for the natural world. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced maker, this class will open up new ways of thinking about color, nature, and the materials that surround us.

Blue Sky, Earthbound II: Indigo & The Language Of Resistance
Sunday, August 24, 2025
10am - 5pm
Bastrop County, Texas
Location provided in the Welcome Letter
In this full-day workshop, we’ll journey into the alchemy of indigo and the poetic power of resistance. Students will learn traditional resist techniques—such as stitching, folding, binding, and clamping—to create patterns that emerge through the deep blue of the indigo vat. All materials are provided, including pre-washed fabric to practice on and sew during class.
We’ll take time to slow down, stitch with intention, and watch as fabric transforms with each dip into the dye. Whether you are new to indigo or returning to its mysteries, this class offers space to experiment, connect, and create.
Participants are also welcome to bring natural fiber items from home (cotton, linen, silk) to dye. No prior experience necessary—just curiosity, a steady needle, and a willingness to get a little blue.
